Unexpectedly Great Results with Sponge Weathering!
Ordinarily, this is a perfect project for dual-color filaments (like black and white) to avoid painting altogether. However, since I only had natural-colored filament on hand, I decided to take a different approach.
Ordinarily, this is a perfect project for dual-color filaments (like black and white) to avoid painting altogether. However, since I only had natural-colored filament on hand, I decided to take a different approach.
I started with a solid primer coat, followed by a base layer of black using a traditional paintbrush. For the final touch, instead of standard painting, I used a sponge-dabbed highlighting technique on the raised lettering and icons. The goal was simply to make the text pop, but the resulting "weathered metal" look was so interesting that I decided to leave it exactly as is.
It turned out to be a fun experiment that definitely catches the eye and gets a good laugh from everyone who sees it for the first time!
